The draft law will protect the sanctity of marriage and encourage the people to take part in eradication of adultery and prostitution.
Padang (ANTARA News) - A draft law calls for a three months` imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp50 million on people found guilty of prostitution in the West Sumatra capital of Padang.

The bill is being discussed by the city council and mayor, Jhon Roza Syaukani, chairman of the special committee for the draft law, said here on Tuesday.

Prostitution, according to draft law, is paid sexual intercourse outside of marriage.

Jhon said the draft law is aimed at eradication of prostitution including adultery in the city to create a religious community based on the state ideology Pancasila.

The draft law will protect the sanctity of marriage and encourage the people to take part in eradication of adultery and prostitution.

Prostitutes and adulterers are also facing customary sanctions, which are adopted and included in the draft law, Jhon said

In order to prevent confusion in the implementation of the law , customary sanctions will be imposed by a local customary institution, he said.

The draft law prepared by the city council was already brought to a plenary session of the council last Sunday.(*)
