"The local people responded well to the program."
Jambi (ANTARA News) - The government has called on the residents of Tebo regency, Jambi province, to cooperate in implementing its Disaster Alert Village program.

"The Disaster Alert Village program will first empower the community in Tilan River village, Central Tebo district, as a pilot project," Tebo Manpower and Transmigration Service head Alfi Rinaldi said here on Monday.

He stated that the program was aimed at helping the local community anticipate natural disasters, particularly floods, which cause huge material loss as well as casualties.

After the initial campaign, Rinaldi said the pilot program received a positive response from the locals.

"The local people responded well to the program. As many as 55 villagers will take part in the simulation exercise of the Disaster Alert Village program," he noted.

Rinaldi added the local people would be divided into different groups during the exercise.

"Disaster Alert Village is a community-based program designed to manage all aspects of disaster recovery - from the preparations phase, to execution and post-disaster management," he explained.

Rinaldi expressed hope that the program would help the local community improve its ability to anticipate and deal with natural disasters.
