Geneva (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Nine Marburg haemorrhagic fever (MHF) cases, including five deaths, have been reported in Uganda, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in an update Monday evening.

All the cases were found in the district of Kabale in the southwest of the African country. Of these, three have been laboratory confirmed by the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), the WHO said.

WHO said preliminary investigations indicated that all these cases belonged to the same cluster-family and relatives of the index case.

WHO added that it is extending support to the country`s ministry of health and partners in controlling the disease from a further outbreak.
