"It would enable students to use their spare time for positive activities and interaction with others," said the governor.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo has said the use of public spaces and facilities such as city parks and sports arenas would be optimized to prevent students' brawls in the city.
"It would enable students to use their spare time for positive activities and interaction with others," said the governor after a ceremony commemorating the Youth Pledge in the National Monument complex here on Monday.
Therefore, the administration would also provide more space for public interaction and recreation in Jakarta and optimize city parks and sports arenas.
"Suropati Park is often used only for sports. In fact, the city park could be used for creative pursuits such as mini orchestra, gambang kromong (traditional orchestra) and dance exercises," he said.
The governor also appealed to the young generation to use the city park to express their technical skills in order to help create a techno park.
"We have a bright young generation, so we must provide a place for them to create. Most of them have good animation skills and the DKI Administration will increase the creative space in Jakarta", he assured.
Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaya Purnama also suggested that the local sports arena (GOR) should be opened for use by the public.
"The sports arena should be opened for the public, despite being leased. It is a pity that the younger generation who live in the `kampung` (village) could not afford to rent the arena to express their creative skills and interact in pleasant conditions," Purnama said.(*)
