Mamuju (ANTARA News) - Three fishermen have gone missing after a fishing boat capsized off the coast of Budong Budong sub-district, Mamuju district, West Sulawesi province, on Wednesday (November 14), according to a resident.

"Hundreds of residents have been searching for the missing fishermen amid the strong currents in Budong Budong waters," said Herly, the son of Ambo Aco, one of the missing fishermen, here on Friday.

"The fishing boat capsized after being hit by huge waves. Two of the three missing fishermen have been identified as Mustafa and Ambo Aco," he added.

According to reports received by ANTARA News on Friday, local residents are combing the Budong Budong coast, using dozens of fishing boats, in search of the missing fishermen.

"Actually, the residents have already reported the case to the provincial and district administration, but no rescue team has been deployed so far," Herly stated.

In a separate incident, two fishermen from Pasaman Barat district, West Sumatra province, also went missing after being hit by waves while fishing on Monday, according to a Search and Rescue (SAR) coordinator.

"We have been looking for the two missing fishermen, identified as Ibul (32) and Ibus (50)," Pasaman SAR team coordinator Akmal said in Pasaman Barat on Monday.

"The two fishermen left their homes for fishing at 5 am," he noted.

"The SAR team immediately went in search of the two fishermen after receiving information about the incident on Monday afternoon," Akmal added.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged the district`s fishermen to not go to the sea, warning of 3-metre-high waves.
