"The court session seemingly was unfair against the victims."
Pontianak, West Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Migrant Care, a non-governmental organization that works with migrant workers, has urged the Indonesian government to send a protest to the Malaysian government regarding the alleged rape committed by Malaysian police officers.

"Just recall the Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia and deport the Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia," Migrant Care`s executive director Anis Hidayah said here on Saturday.

The reason she called for a protest is the "unfair" first court session, which took place on Friday (Nov 16), for three Malaysian police officers who allegedly raped two Indonesian female workers, Anis said.

"The court session seemingly was unfair against the victims," Anis noted.

Three Malaysian police officers are charged with raping two Indonesian workers in Malaysia this month.

The latest rape case occurred on November 9, when a 25-year-old Indonesian restaurant waitress from Central Java, identified as SM, claimed that she was gang-raped by three Malaysian police officers at Perai police office, Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Penang State.

According to Anis, showing the Malaysian victim to be a criminal occurred during the court session, by questioning the victim`s immigration documents.

"The serious disappointment is the termination of the rape suspects being detained by ending their detention with a 25,000 Malaysian ringgit bail and a reporting obligation once a month," she explained.

It indicates that the Malaysian government is not serious in prosecuting criminal cases committed by its police officers, Anis said.

In addition, a Diplomatic Protest Memorandum which was delivered by the Indonesian ambassador in Kuala Lumpur and by the Foreign Minister did not influence the Malaysian government, she added.
