Sukabumi, W Java (ANTARA News) - Six Iranians were sentenced to 14 years in jail and a fine of Rp10 billion each here on Friday for smuggling 100 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Chief Judge M Ramdes of the District Court of Cibadak, Sukabumi, said reading the verdict Masoud Arefi, Ali Aslanichghiverti, Ali Din Mohama, Hossein Salari Rashid, Nima Maradianpour and Abdul Rahman were guilty violating the country`s narcotic law.

The sentence was lower that the prosecutor`s demand of 20 years and a fine of Rp10 billion or another year in jail for failing to pay it.

During the court sessions the Iranian meth smugglers were found to be members of an international drug smuggling ring and each played their own roles such dispatching the drug from Iran, receiving it and determining the landing location.

They smuggled the drug through the Sukabumi waters in West Java to meet the order of Asiong now still at large.

Their lawyer appealed the verdict while the prosecution said they still had yet to decide whether or not to appeal it.(*)
