Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - The ruling Democrat Party plans to announce its presidential and vice presidential candidates for the election in 2014 next year, head of external relations Andi Nurpati said.

"I think in 2103 a lot of the names of presidential candidates would emerge from parties including from the Democrat Party," she said on the sidelines of the party`s national meeting here on Saturday.

She said the party`s chief patron, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is also the country`s president, had said that the party`s presidential and vice presidential candidates would be the ones who could garner public support.

"He did not mention names explicitly but said "God willing the Democrat presidential and vice presidential candidates would be the ones supported by the people. Indeed we have already had prospective candidates and also set the criteria but their names would only be made known when the time comes," she said.

Andi said political situation in the country would escalate in 2013 as rivalries among parties would increase. She believed political parties that would take part in the election have prepared their own strategies to win it.

She said one of the strategies that the Democrat Party had taken was rotating the party`s central executive board members.

She said the Democrat Party would also maximize the role of village heads from the party in a number of regions reaching more than 30 percent of total local heads.

"With more than 30 percent of local heads we are determined to win the election," she said.

The Democrat Party`s general chairman, Anas Urbaningrum, meanwhile said at the closing of the party`s national meeting on Saturday that the party`s future was not bleak.

He said with unity and hard work he believed the party would be able to win.

The party`s chief patron Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is also the president, had asked the party to prepare itself for the 2014 general elections, according to party head of strategy and police development center, Ulil Absar Abdalla.

He said the order was realistic in view of the current development faced by the party.

"Unless correction was made it would be hard (for the party to win)," he said.

He said basic correction needed was about the cadres` behavior.

He said one and a half year would be enough for the party to improve its performance.

Ulil said "the government`s achievement would be capital. The government`s success would be the bet. If the government could make a soft landing and the President ended his term carrying goodness that would give a big capital for winning the 2014 general elections."
