Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has been recognised here for his contribution to regional and international stability, particularly when Indonesia chaired ASEAN last year.

According to the Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha, the Indonesian head of state will receive an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership of Peace from the University of North Malaysia. The award will be presented to the President by the King of Malaysia, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Al Haj Abdul Halim.

"The award will be given to the President because of his peace efforts regionally as well as internationally, especially in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region," Julian said.

"It has been deemed that Indonesia was successful in easing tensions in the region last year when it chaired ASEAN," he added.

The award ceremony will be held at the Maharaja State Palace Council in Kuala Lumpur.(*)
