Ternate, North Maluku (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono has called on all parties to maintain the values of social solidarity and prevent them from being eroded by the flow of modern life and globalization.

"The spirit of the glorious and precious values of social solidarity will fade if we fail to maintain and keep it," the vice president said during the peak event of National Solidarity Day 2012 in Ternate, North Maluku, on Thursday.

Boediono noted that Indonesia actually wants to be a modern, developed country, which is well respected in the global political arena, but it does not wish to lose the transcendent values of social solidarity, which have long been a part of the nation`s culture and identity.

"Therefore, with full awareness, let us continue to maintain and keep the spirit of social solidarity in all areas across the country," Vice President Boediono said.

On this occasion, the vice president was accompanied by Madame Herawati Boediono, Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al-Jufrie, State Administrative Reform Minister Azwar Abubakar, Health Minister Nafsiah Mboi, Deputy Education and Culture Minister Musliar Kasim, and North Maluku Governor Thaib Armaiyn.

The vice president noted that National Solidarity Day is observed to place the transcendent values of social solidarity on a solid footing. (*)
