Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono attended Christmas celebrations at the Jakarta convention centre on Thursday.

Vice President Boediono, his spouse, Herawati Boediono, and several ministers from the cabinet, Indonesia Bersatu II, were also present at the event.

Indonesia's Health Minister, Nafsih Mboi, who is also the chairman of the event`s committee, gave a speech - God loves us. Her speech was about sharing happiness with kith and kin on this joyous occasion.

"We urge Christians in Indonesia to maintain peace in the country. We hope that they maintain Indonesia's status as a multicultural society," she said.

The organisers of the event also decorated the stage with a Christmas tree, made from rice, tubers, corns and vegetables.

"A Christmas tree is a symbol of grace. We hope that in 2013, God will give us plenty of food and make us prosperous," said Mboi.

Meanwhile, Andreas A Yewangoe, General Chairman of the Communion of Indonesian Churches (PGI), delivered a Christmas message. Mgr Ignatius Suharyo, General Chairman of the Bishop Council of Indonesia (KWI), led the attendees in Christmas prayers.
