Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will try to not change the subsidized fuel oil quota this year in an effort to promote its kerosene-to-gas conversion (BBG) program and control subsidized fuel oil consumption.

"We will limit the consumption of subsidized fuel for vehicles owned by the government and plantation and mining companies. We will also promote our BBG program," said Eddy Hemantoro, the Oil and Gas Ministry`s incumbent director general for energy and mineral resources, here on Wednesday.

He stated the government would speed up the implementation of the BBG program "by reinforcing its team" and by getting the private sector involved in the project.

"The private sector will participate in the workshop on BBG kit and its distribution, as well as the construction of the gas refuelling station (SPBG)," Eddy added.

The government has set aside Rp400 billion from the state budget for the BBG program this year.

"The budget is only enough to build a gas pipeline. PT Pertamina (Persero) and private parties are expected to cooperate in the construction of SPBG, because the funding for SPBG should come from state-owned enterprises and the private sector, not from state funds. Additional funds may be allocated in the 2013 revised budget," Eddy explained.

The conversion program is still facing problems at the implementation phase, because the converter kits have not yet been imported due to limited funds.

Besides, the government has not issued a building permit so far, due to which the establishment of SPBGs have been delayed.(*)
