"The new KPU secretary general must be able to cope with the problem."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A political scientist has expressed hope that the Indonesia General Elections Commission (KPU) its next secretary general must be able to organize more transparent elections.

"I hope that the secretary general who would be elected would be able to solve all problems with the KPU, particularly the transparency problems which political parties often complain of," Ari Junaedi of the University of Indonesia, said here on Wednesday.

He said that the new secretary general must overcome the schedule problems of every stage of the election process and the management of the KPU administration.

"The often delayed deadlines in the stages of the election process must be overcome with a good time arrangement," he said.

The KPU should also has a good administration because political parties have so far always complained of bad management administration, he said.

Ari said that the new KPU secretary general would face a big challenge with the heating up of the political situation in the run-up to the general elections in 2014.

"Like a CEO in a company, the new KPU secretary general must be able to cope with the problem at the KPU. The big challenge it is facing is that when it has to take a neutral stance in handling cases of elections disputes," Ari said.

So, the new secretary general should really understand all things relating the elections and the roles to be played by the KPU as a state institution assigned to organize the elections.

"The one that should be picked up as the new secretary general should really understand matters on the elections and the KPU so that she or he would be able to overcome the emerging problems," Ari said.

A total of nine nominees are now undergoing a series of tests to contest the secretary general post of the KPU.

According to KPU Commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiansyah, the nine nominees consist of Muhammad Dimyati, Reifeldi, H. Syarifuddin Side, Resman, Yuhardi R. Jusuf, Arif Rahman Hakim MS, Andi Pangerang Moenta, Noor Sidharta and Rizari.
