"We ask legislators not to give the judge position to Daming as he had offended people`s feeling by uttering inappropriate statement," spokesman from Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation Ridwan Bakar said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Supreme Court Justice`s candidate, M Daming Sanusi, gets public criticism for jokingly said that rapist should not get death penalty as the rapist and his victim equally enjoy themselves during the incident.

Daming made the joke during fit and proper test for Supreme Court Justice`s position in front of members of Commission III of the House of Representatives last Monday (Jan 14). He is commenting on a question raised by one of the legislator about whether a rapist should get death penalty or not.

"We ask legislators not to give the judge position to Daming as he had offended people`s feeling by uttering inappropriate statement," spokesman from Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation Ridwan Bakar said here on Tuesday.

He argued a supreme court judge should have shown responsibility and integrity both in daily life and on duty.

"Though Daming said the rapist comment is only a joke to melt down tense situation during the fit and proper test session, his statement can scrape people`s trust towards court institution," he said.

According to Ridwan, Daming has violated ethical code of justice official and therefore the Judicial Commission - where Daming is currently worked at - must cancel Daming`s candidacy to be Supreme Court`s Justice.(*)
