Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Supreme Court Justice`s Candidate Daming Sanusi here on Tuesday apologized for uttering joke about rape victims.

Daming receives public criticism for jokingly said that rapist should not get death penalty as the rapist and his victim equally enjoy themselves during the incident.

He made the joke during fit and proper test for Supreme Court Justice`s position in front of members of Commission III of the House of Representatives last Monday (Jan 14). He is commenting on a question raised by one of the legislator about whether a rapist should get death penalty or not.

"I sincerely apologize to the people and media for my statement that was out of control. I made the remark without realizing it can harm people`s feeling," he said in a press conference here on Tuesday.

Daming explained he was too tense during the test session in front of legislators that he made the joke about rape victims.(*)
