Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Flood in front of Hotel Indonesia roundabout has not yet receded until Thursday (Jan 17) night.

ANTARA learned that the 20 centimeter-high water is still surrounding the area that`s located in Thamrin main road.

The situation is getting worse as heavy rain hit again at 9 P.M. after it stopped since Thursday afternoon.

Hundreds of people who gather on the side of the road are now taking shelters to the nearest police office until the rain stops.

The area which is home to many office buildings has been hit by flood since Thursday morning. It was said that a 50 centimeter-high water flooded Hotel Indonesia roundabout in the morning.

Incessant rains that poured Jakarta and its surrounding areas from 02.a.m. local time on Thursday, triggered floods in certain areas of the capital city and paralized its citizen`s daily activities.

Flood occurred in other part of Central Jakarta that has never been inundated before such as in Kebon Sirih, as stated by a local resident Muhammad Faisal here, Thursday.

Faisal also said that the last flood occurred in 2008, where it also paralyzed the local community activities.

Based on data from the Jakarta Police`s Traffic Management Centre (TMC) Jakarta areas that are inundated by the floods including the West Jatinegara road, East Jakarta.

Other areas that are also flooded namely in Gudang Peluru, Tebet. Meanwhile, S Parman road is inundated by some 50 centimetres of water.

Apart from that, the 80-120 centimetre-flood also inundated the university campus of Trisakti. No vehicle can pass by the road in Grogol, West Jakarta. (A051/B003)
