"We presented eight draft laws whose passage is still hindered," House Speaker Marzuki Alie said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR) met to discuss hurdles hindering the passage of eight draft laws here on Monday.
"We presented eight draft laws whose passage is still hindered," House Speaker Marzuki Alie said after the consultation meeting that lasted for around three hours.
The meeting was attended by House Speaker Marzuki Alie, Deputy House Speakers Priyo Budi Santoso, Pramono Anung and Taufik Kurniawan.
In the meeting, President Yudhoyono was flanked by several ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono and Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.
Marzuki said DPR was aware that productivity was needed to respond to public complaints and therefore, the consultation meeting with the chief executive had been held to overcome the obstacles hindering legislation efforts so far because the legislation task also involved the government.
"The legislation task is not only the responsibility of DPR but also the government," he said.
Priyo Budi Santoso meanwhile said the eight draft laws discussed include the draft law on BPJS (the social security operating agency) and SJSN (the national social security system), the draft law on national security, the draft law on mass organizations, the draft law on villages, the draft law on gubernatorial election and the draft law local administration.
Taufik Kurniawan said following the consultation meeting it was hoped the draft laws could be passed this year, after being delayed several times.(*)
