"The construction which is estimated to cost Rp100 billion has started since January 2013. The Jumairah group builds the site in cooperation with local entrepreneur," Wakatobi district`s Chief Hugua said here on Monday.
He added the Jumairah group will place its experts to manage the new resort while local people will be hired as workers. Hugua expressed hope the resort will support economic growth in Wakatobi district as locals can work there as regular workers or tourist guide.
The district chief added Wakatobi is open for investors except those who wants to build shopping malls. "We don`t want any shopping mall in the district," he noted.
Wakatobi is well known for its diving sites. The underwater life of Wakatobi is rich, with at least 750 species of coral reefs and 900 species of fish.
At least 1.3 million hectares of Wakatobi are part of Wakatobi National Marine Park with Karang Mari Mabo, Onemobaa, Pulau Hioga, and Pantai Patuno diving sites.(*)
