Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State telecommunications operator PT Indosat Tbk saw its net profit plummeting 52.5 percent to Rp417.4 billion in 2012 from Rp879.7 billion in 2011 on high operating expenses.

Operating expenses rose 11.5 percent to Rp19.51 trillion last year from Rp17.5 trillion a year earlier, the company said in a press statement released on Monday.

Throughout 2012, Indosat posted operating income of Rp22.72 trillion, a 10.4 percent increase from the year before, Indosat President Director Alexander Rusli said.

The operating income was contributed by cellular income which rose 12 percent to Rp18.76 trillion in 2012 from Rp16.75 trillion the year before.

Meanwhile, non-cellular income contributed Rp3.83 trillion of the overall income, up 3.4 percent from a year ago, he said.

"The increase in cellular income was fueled by a 13.1 percent rise in the number of cellular subscribers to 58.5 million numbers from 51.7 million numbers previously," he said. (S012)
