"Additional foreign investment in state bonds and shares would certainly strengthen rupiah."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian currency rupiah gained slightly against the US dollar in trade on Monday.

Rupiah closed at 9,685 against the US dollar from the level of 9,686 in inter-bank transaction this afternoon.

Samuel Sekuritas`s market observer Lana Soelistianingsih said there was an addition of Rp2 billion in sovereign bonds held by foreign investors early this month.

Lana also noted an increase of US$95.1 million in share assets bringing foreign equity assets to US$2 billion this year.

"Additional foreign investment in state bonds and shares would certainly strengthen rupiah," she said.

She said rupiah has been relatively stable against the US dollar thanks partly to protection provided by Bank Indonesia .

She predicted the rupiah would weaken this week to follow the regional trend.
