Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested a judge on corruption charges in the West Java provincial capital of Bandung on Friday, a spokesman said.

"It is true a team of KPK investigators arrested two people suspected of involvement in a corruption case at 02.45 p.m.," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Friday.

The KPK investigators made the arrest at the Bandung district court where the judge works, he said.

Johan said the judge was arrested, along with a person who was believed to have bribed the judge in connection with a case handled at the court.

The judge, identified by his initials as SET, is deputy chief of the Bandung district court. He received a certificate of judge training in corruption eradication in January 2010.

"He was arrested along with a sum of money as evidence," he said without elaborating on how much.

The corruption case surrounds the abuse of social assistance for the Bandung city administration in 2012.

Seven officials of the city government were sentenced to one year`s imprisonment each after they had been found guilty of involvement in the corruption case which inflicted Rp9.4 billion in losses on the state.

"The arrest is the result of cooperation between the KPK and the Supreme Court in cracking down on delinquent judges," he said.

Earlier, in August 2012, the anti-graft body also arrested red-handed a number of judges, including ad hoc judge Kartini Marpaung of the Bandung anti-corruption court and ad hoc judge Heru Kusbandono of the Pontianak anti-corruption court.

On June 2, 2011, the KPK also arrested Syarifudin who was a supervisory judge of the Central Jakarta district court at his residence in Sunter, North Jakarta, on corruption charges.

Syariffuin was arrested shortly after taking a bribe of Rp250 million from Puguh Wiryawan of PT Skycamping Indonesia in connection with a court verdict declaring the company bankrupt.
