Sleman (ANTARA News) - The New Indonesia People`s Movement (GRIB)`s chapter in Yogyakarta has asked President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to form a joint team to probe a brutal attack on Cebongan prison in Sleman, Yogyakarta, district that left four people dead.

"We hope the President will soon form a joint team to reveal the attack on the Cebongan penitentiary to the clearest possible," the chief of the movement`s provincial executive board in Yogyakarta, Wahyu Wijanarko said here on Tuesday.

The team is also expected to investigate a group of people attacking Army`s elite force (Kopassus) member 1st Sgt Heru Santosa at Hugo`s Cafe in Sleman, leading to his death on March 19.

According to him, the two cases were correlated.

"The attack by a group of armed people on the Cebongan penitentiary that killed four inmates is a criminal offense and violates human rights," he said.

As a mass organization, GRIB appealed to all sides in Yogyakarta, including social figures and mass organizations to refrain from issuing a statement that might worsen security condition in the city, he said.

It was reported earlier that a group of armed men had forcefully entered the prison in search for four inmates being accused to have killed a military personnel in Hugos cafe in Sleman district last Tuesday (March 19).

The armed group shot dead the four inmates and run away before police came. Speculations rise that the armed men are members of the Special Forces Command. The attack also injured eight prison guards.

Earlier, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Pramono Edhie Wibowo said he had set up a team of investigators in reaction to alleged involvement of Army soldiers in the attack on the prison.

"The preliminary result of investigation indicates the role of irresponsible Army soldiers from Central Java (in the attack)," he told a press conference here on Friday.

The nine-member investigating team which was formed on Wednesday (March 27) is led by deputy commander of the Army`s military police center Brig. Gen. Unggul K, he said.

He said the team is made up of representatives from the regional military police, the district military command 072/Pamungkas, the Diponegoro regional military command IV, the Army`s elite force (Kopassus) and the Army Headquarters.
