"Flood water has receded."
Ngawi, East Java (ANTARA News) - The floods that have affected several parts of Ngawi district, East Java, due to the overflowing of Bengawan Solo and Bengawan Madiun rivers began to recede on Wednesday.

"Flood water has receded. There are no more inundated houses and roads, but several hectares of rice fields are still submerged," Head of the district Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) service, Eko Heru Cahyono, said.

The Bengawan Solo water level was recorded to have receded from nine meters to seven meters on Wednesday.

"Despite receding floods, residents along Bengawan Solo and Bengawan Madiun River are still asked to stay alert in case more incessant rain hits the region," he said.

Food and logistics supply for flood victims would be still distributed for the next three days by the Agency.

However, there is still enough clean water supply in the region. "So far, the request for clean water only came from Tirak Village, Kwadungan Sub-district. We are ready to send clean water supply to floods victims every time they need," Cahyono said.

The Agency could not yet estimate the total loss due to the floods.

Temporary data from BPBD and local Agriculture Office showed that floods had inundated 1,351 hectare of crops in Ngawi.

"The number will increase as we are still collecting data of the damaged areas," Cahyono said.

Two pepole had been killed due to the floods, namely Idarman (40) resident of Gerih Sub-district and Dana (15) resident of Kedunggalar Sub-district.

BPBD has the emergency tents, rubber boats and other logistics ready for precaution despite receding water.

Previously, overflowing Bengawan Solo River also inundated at least 109 villages in 14 sub-districts in Bojonegoro, East Java.

Floods have affected around 8,454 families in the region. As many as 2,364 residents have evacuated themselves to emergency tents.

As many as 2,515 cows and 1,464 goats had to be evacuated.

Moreover, around 2,761 hectares of rice fields and 491 hectares of orchard crops have been inundated. "The estimated loss due to the floods was around Rp5.372 billion," Head of BPBD Bojonegoro Kasiyanto said on Tuesday.
