The migration transition period of hajj fund from conventional to shariah banks may take one year.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Pilgrimage funds amounting to Rp11 trillion will be immediately moved from conventional to sharia banks within a period of one year in line with the demand of hajj pilgrims.

Speaking to the press here on Wednesday, Hajj and Minor Hajj Affairs Director General of the Religious Affairs Ministry Anggito Abimanyu said that in the future all hajj funds will be managed under Shariah system.

As to the mechanism of the funds transfer in such a big amount, Anggito said it was exactly the internal affairs of the bank. The recipient bank will have to comply with some requirements, for which they are not allowed to be a hajj bailout bank in addition to supporting the deposit insurance agency guarantor program.

The migration transition period of hajj fund from conventional to shariah banks may take one year, he said, adding that his side will appoint three coordinating banks.

It is admitted that shariah bank have no many branch offices in remote regions of Indonesia. Therefore prospective pilgrim are allowed to put their money in conventional bank and not more than five days, the conventional bank should transfer the money concerned to shariah bank.

According to him, all processes of hajj fund migration will be evaluated after six months. The objective to move the fund is only to serve the pilgrims maximally.

If the prerequisites are ignored, the bank concerned will not be chosen as the bank in charge of keeping hajj fund.

It was said that migration of hajj fund from conventional to shariah bank was in line with the degree of Religious Minister No 30, 2013 on deposit recipient bank (BPS) for hajj operation cost.
