"The raskin should be delivered to the right-men. Its volume should be raised to lighten the poor expenditures," Boediono said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said the distribution of for the poor (raskin) needs to be improved if the fuel price hike is to be imposed later.

"The raskin should be delivered to the right-men. Its volume should be raised to lighten the poor expenditures," VP Boediono said at the closing of the National Development Planning Conference (Musrenbangnas) here on Tuesday.

The meeting was also attended by second unity cabinet members, governors, regents and mayors from all over Indonesia.

The VP called for regional governments to improve rice distribution.

Besides that he also urged for improved supervision to assure that rice sold at the right price as stipulated by the government.

Sutarto Alimoeso, the general director of State Logistics Agency (Bulog) said his agency has been ready to increase the volume of rice to anticipate the effects of subsidized fuel price hike.

"We are ready to assure the rice supply due to our enough stocks although the subsidized fuel price has been raised," he said.

According to him, the rice for the poor has been set 15 kilograms per family. It would meet about 30-40 percent of raskin receiver needs.

If raskin is allocated 30 kilograms per family, it could fulfill 60-70 percent of rice for the recipient.

He said Bulog has been distributing about 230 thousand tons of raskin per month.

In April 30, the State Logistic Agency rice stocks were recorded more than 2.5 million tons which is enough to meet national food demand for 10 months.

"Bulog has no problem if the volume of the rice for the poor to be added. If the fuel price is raised, it means the amount of rice must be increased too," he said.(*)
