Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The composite index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) fell slightly by 0.33 point in the opening trade here on Tuesday on profit taking by some investors.

BEI index dropped 0.01 percent to 4,991.54 points followed by a 0.01 fall of the index of 45 most liquid stocks to the level of 845.86 points.

"A number of investors still sold shares for profit, but the country`s economic growth was strong enough to prevent the index from shrinking deeper," Trust Securities` analyst, Reza Priyambada said here on Tuesday.

The condition could even prop up the index to reach a positive area, he said, adding the trend in the global market also tends to be positive.

Regional markets Hang Seng recorded a 0.03 percent increase in index to 22,922.41 points with Nikkei-225 index rising 2.75 percent to 14,069.99 points and that of Straits Times gaining 0.30 percent to 3,392.31 points.(*)
