... the reforms movement also opens wide information access..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said reforms movement in Indonesia should not come across with a dead faint after its launch 15 years ago.
"It is the movement that facilitates democracy to run and prevent the return of an authoritarian regime," the minister said in a seminar "15 Years of the Reforms Movement: Contemplation and Challenges" here on Tuesday.
Hatta said that various steps had been taken to smooth the process of democratization and political procedures done in the form concrete transformations and pro-people policies. This all is thanks to the presence of the reforms movement.
The minister said that the reforms movement had given birth to free, direct and fair general elections. It gave a chance for the people to assemble, express aspirations and form associations.
"Besides, the reforms movement also opens wide information access, decentralization and regional autonomy. It enables a direct and routine presidential and vice presidential elections as well as regional head elections," said Hatta.
At the same time, he said, there has been a very basic note on the fundamental change, namely structural and cultural democratic changes.
"Therefore, the nation is convinced that democracy is the best choice," said Hatta.
