Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook North Tapanuli district, North Sumatra, on Thursday at 02.16 p.m. local time.

The quake was centered 26 km southeast of North Tapanuli at a depth of 10 km, spokesman of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) office in Medan, Hendra Swarta said.

The temblor was also felt by people living as far away as in Sibolga city and Central Tapanuli district, North Sumatra, at 2-3 on the modified mercalli intensity (MMI) scale.

There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.
