"Rejection is common and we will hold a dialog and mediation with various parties to deal with the matter," said the Secretary of Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Hendarman, in a press conference at the launch of Curriculum 2013 at SMA Negeri 68 Jakarta, on Monday morning.
Hendarman said that the dialogue will be done with teachers, so the ministry could understand the constraints and problems faced by them.
"Obstacles and problems they face would contribute to the completion of this curriculum and be used for an evaluation," he said.
Separately an education activist Romo Benny Susetyo added that his organization does not reject the new curriculum, but is concerned about the unpreparedness of teachers to implement it.
"This generation might not become a golden generation, but a generation of no brain and the victims are the children, the next generation," said Benny in the discussion on the 2013 curriculum application at Jakarta Legal Aid building, Thursday, July 12.
Benny argued that familiarization and training for this curriculum were poor.
The curriculum is feared only to be an obstacle for the future generation to be able to think more critically, due to incompetent teachers in implementing it.
"The teachers have only been given training for the curriculum for five days and it was not a simulation but only a lecture," said Benny.
Benny questioned how young people could think critically and be intelligent without teacher intervention.
"Teaching is not just a transfer of knowledge, but also about a role model. If the teacher does not understand how can students understand?" he added.
Benny thought that the 2013 Curriculum has a problem rooted in the quality of teachers that is still very poor, because they never had been improved.
"This is just ritual and done without any concept of what the purpose is. To improve the nation`s intellectuals, there should be a reform in a teaching system," said Benny. (*)
