In addition to finding renewable energy sources we must continue to economize the use of energy in the downstream sectors."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Energy minister Jero Wacik said he hoped energy efficiency that would be carried out in the industrial park in Karawang could also be implemented in the hotel sector.
"I asked for its implementation in other sectors as well such as in the hotel industry, for example where a device may be provided to automatically switch off lights and air conditioning system when they are not in use," he said.
The minister made the statement in response to the cooperation between the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with Japan`s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to boost efficiency in the Suryacipta City industrial zone in Karawang, West Java.
Under the cooperation NEDO would grant equipment to monitor and save electricity in the Karawang industrial zone with a total investment for the equipment reaching Rp350 billion.
Jero said efficiency was needed in the industrial zone because electricity demand continued to increase.
"In addition to finding renewable energy sources we must continue to economize the use of energy in the downstream sectors," he said.
He believed that use of electricity energy in the industrial zones could be cut by up to 15 percent from the present level.
Meanwhile the President Director of State Own Electricity Company (PT PLN) Nur Pamudji said that efficient use of energy
in industrial parks will increase his company`s ability to meet people`s electricity needs.
"If the electricity use in the industrial parks can be more efficient, it will give us more resources to meet customer needs," he said.
He also believe that electricity use in the industrial parks can be reduced between 10 to 30 percents.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning the project was signed here on Monday by the Director General of EBTKE, Rida Mulyana, and NEDO`s executive director Hiroshi Kuniyoshi.
The project is a cooperation project between the two countries` governments and involves several Japanese and Indonesian companies, namely Sumitomo Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric, Fuji Electric, NTT Communications, and state-owned electricity company PT. PLN and Suryacipta City of Industry aimed at introducing smarter and more suitable power infrastructure to create a smart and ecological industrial park model.
The MoU is based on the result of a Feasibility Study on Smart Communities In Industrial Parks in the Suryacipta City which had been done in 2012.
