Our commitment to the community also includes the use of talent, time and resources..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) is cooperating with Zurich Insurance Indonesia in mitigating flood risks through a people-based program.
"Risk reduction is one of PMI`s priority activities. We are thankful to this cooperation between PMI and Zurich," PMI chief M. Jusuf Kalla said in a press statement released on Wednesday.
The cooperation which is part of Zurich Insurance Group`s flood resilience program will last for five years and cost up to five million Swiss Franc.
The cooperation is aimed at improving the people`s skill in facing floods through innovative ways to achieve the maximum benefit of disaster risk mitigation efforts at national and global levels, he said.
Zurich manager for Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa Geoff Riddell expressed gratitude to PMI for the cooperation.
"Our commitment to the community also includes the use of talent, time and resources we have to give a significant impact to the community`s enhanced resistance to the risk they face," he said.
Indonesia is one of flood-prone countries in Southeast Asia. Floods affect almost all provinces in the country.
The high rainfall, poor drainage system, migration to major cities and shrinking water catchment areas are among the causes of floods.
