Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - Transportation Minister EE Mangindaan said five international airports in the country would get special security in connection with Islamic post-fasting holiday of Lebaran.

The five airports to receive special security are Jakarta`s Soekarno-Hatta airport, Kualanamu in Medan, North Sumatra, Ngurah Rai in Bali, Hasanudin in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and Juanda in Surabaya, East Java, he said here on Thursday.

"These airports are big airports and so more security personnel would be stationed there," he said after inspecting the Soekarno-Hatta airport.

Millions of people in the country would conduct journeys to their home villages to celebrate the holiday with their friends, families or relatives to make airports, seaports, train stations or bus terminals very crowded days before and after the fall of the holiday on August 8.

The minister said security in other smaller airports however would also be given a priority in connection with the holiday.

He said more security personnel would be deployed to the facilities as the number of passengers would soar and an anticipatory measure against any eventuality.

He said personnel from the police force and the military and also from airport authorities would stand by for 24 hours especially ahead of the peak of Lebaran.

"Preparations must be made well," he said.

The president director of airport operator company PT Angkasa Pura II, Tri S Sunoko, meanwhile assured that preparations had been made well. "It is all ready," he said. (*)
