Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a consultation meeting with law enforcers at the State Palace on Thursday.

The meeting, closed for the press, was attended by law enforcers and United Indonesia Cabinet-II ministers.

Present at the meeting were Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Abraham Samad, Attorney General Basrief Arief, Supreme Court Chairman Hatta Ali, and Supreme Audit Board Chairman Hadi Poernomo.

Also present at the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, National Police Chief Gen Timur Pradopo, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, National Defence Forces Chief Admiral Agus Suhartono, State Intelligence Agency Chief Marciano Norman, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa, Finance Minister Chatib Basri, and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam.

Before the meeting, President Yudhoyono attended an event to observe the 18th National Technology Awakening Day at Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park (TMII) in East Jakarta.

Technology Day is observed every year on August 10 to promote technological progress, which was marked for the first time on August 10, 1995, coinciding with the maiden flight of N250 plane, made in Indonesia, and the 50th anniversary of Indonesia`s Independence Day.

Meanwhile, Research and Technology Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta said the government is encouraging the development of science and technology to address various social problems.

"Science and technology can solve social problems. Hence, development in these areas should be encouraged," added the minister.

The minister noted that scientific and technological innovations aimed at national development should be based on the needs of the community.

Gusti said national progress is not only dependent on the potential of the country`s natural resources but also on the country's mastery of science and technology. (*)
