KPK Chairman Abraham Samad stated that Susilo`s verdict was too light and did not represent justice.Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is likely to appeal the Jakarta Corruption Court`s verdict that sentenced Inspector General Djoko Susilo to 10 years in jail and a Rp500 million in a fine.
"KPK is actually still considering as to whether to appeal. But we almost definite to file an appeal against the verdict. Personally, I suggest to appeal the verdict," said KPK Chairman Abraham Samad here on Thursday.
Samad stated that Susilo`s verdict was too light and did not represent justice.
"I fully respect the court, despite the verdict was far much from 18 years in prison, as prosecutors had sought before," he said.
The Commission, according to Samad, is still analyzing the verdict to take the next steps.
"We still continue to study the verdict. As a matter of fact, we will explain our considerations in the appeal," he said.
Earlier on Tuesday (Sept 3), the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Djoko Susilo, the former chief of Traffic Police Corps to 10 years in jail and a Rp500 million in a fine for corruption linked to a driving simulator project.
"Inspector General Djoko Susilo is proven guilty of corruption and involvement in a number of crimes and is sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined Rp500 million or six months more in jail," chief judge Suhartoyo said in a corruption court session.
The sentence was lighter than the prosecutor`s demand, which was 18 years in jail and a fine of Rp1 million or one more year in jail for failing to pay it in addition to Rp32 billion in damages or five more years in jail for failing to pay it.(*)
