"I still enjoy and focus on training to improve my physical fitness, while waiting for the next fight to be scheduled," Chris John said.Semarang, C Java (ANTARA News) - The WBA featherweight Super Champions titleholder Chris John continues to enjoy his training at Herry`s Gym, Perth, Australia, to improve his physical fitness ahead of his 19th title fight.
"I still enjoy and focus on training to improve my physical fitness, while waiting for the next fight to be scheduled," Chris John said here on Thursday when contacted via phone.
The boxer, known for his nickname "The Dragon," noted that his training schedule, managed by coach Craig Christian, comprised jogging and weight training to improve his physique and shadow boxing and tugging to improve his technique.
"During the 5-month period of rest, I continue to train but only lightly, just to maintain my fitness level," he stated.
Meanwhile, the boxer from Banjarnegara, Central Java, noted that once the fight date is selected, his training program will switch to focus on improving his technique.
"No updates on the fight schedule have been released, so I am continuing to focus on maintaining my physical fitness," he explained.
Chris John`s most recent title fight ended in a draw when he faced off against Japanese fighter Satoshi Hosono in Jakarta on April 14, 2013. The referee had stopped the fight when John was injured; John had to receive stitches shortly after the fight.
The undefeated boxer with a 48(22)-0-3 record started his training at Herry`s Gym in Perth, Australia, on Aug. 17, 2013, and was a guest star at a fight in Australia on Aug. 30.
The 33-year-old boxer has held the world champion title for 10 years since he snatched it from Colombian Oscar Leon in an ad-interim fight in Bali on Sept. 26, 2003.
He was awarded the Super Champions title after he successfully defended his main title 10 times in a row. In his 10th fight to defend his title, on Oct. 24, 2008, John beat the host`s boxer Hiroyuki Enoki in Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.(*)
