Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia (BI) and Chinese Central Bank extended bilateral swap agreement (BSA) signed in 2009 to strengthen the financial systems of the two countries.

"The extension was signed yesterday afternoon worth around US$15 billion," BI Deputy Governor Perry Warjiyo said on the sidelines of a BI working meeting with the Budget Division of the House of Representative here on Wednesday.

Perry said the signing is a follow-up step of BI to increase foreign exchange reserve guarantee if needed later facing other countries.

Earlier BI already signed BSA with Bank of Japan as agent of Japanese finance minister.

The extension was effective as from August 31 this year, Perry said.

BI executive director for communications Difi A. Johansyah said the policy is as a precaution to maintain the strength of the country`s foreign exchange reserves..

"Global economic uncertainties need precautionary measure including protection for foreign exchange reserves," he said.
