Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Twenty-seven people have been detained following a clash between security personnel and demonstrators in Walenrang sub-district, Central Luwu district, South Sulawesi.

"The figure is based on a report from the Luwu district police chief Adj. Snr. Comr. Alan G Abast," South Sulawesi provincial police spokesman Snr. Comr. Endi Sutendi said on Tuesday.

He said security condition in Walenrang sub-district had returned to normal following a rally demanding the creation of Central Luwu district.

"Although the situation has returned to normal police officers are still deployed in vulnerable areas," he said.

The clash left a 25-year old man dead, he said adding the cause of his death was still unknown.(*)
