"The President suggested that independent institutions, such as BI and OJK, can carry out the coordination. We also discussed matters relating to the FKSSK," BI Governor Agus Martowardojo stated at the Presidential Office here on Tuesday.
Agus emphasized that with the law coming into force on the transfer of supervisory function from BI (the central bank) to the OJK, effective December 31, 2013, the President urged BI, the OJK, and the government to coordinate smoothly through the FKSSK.
He noted that through the FKSSK, BI will coordinate with the OJK, savings institutions, and the government in an endeavor to preserve the financial system.
The BI added that coordination was crucial, particularly in a condition that needed special attention. Not long ago, Indonesia had successfully faced the economic crisis, which serves as a fine example of the successful coordination among stakeholders.
According to Agus, President Yudhoyono also expressed his view that the goal of development, namely improving the welfare of the Indonesian people, can be achieved by coordination among the financial institutions in Indonesia.
In the meantime, OJK Chairman Muliaman D Hadad noted that the transfer of the supervision system from BI to OJK was running smoothly because the transition had been planned and prepared a year in advance.
"We have verified from the Aceh Province in the West to Jayapura (Papua Province) in the East and found that the OJK had successfully handled bank supervision activities," Hadad added.(*)
