We arrested seven suspects."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta City Police (Polda Metro Jaya) nabbed a group of car theft specialists that stole auto vehicles from parking lots in Jakarta.
"We arrested seven suspects," stated Spokesperson of Polda Metro Jaya Senior Commissionaire Rikwanto here, on Wednesday.
The seven auto theft suspects are DD (picker), Darto (driver), DSB or Bani (watcher), WND (Driver), YYP or Nanang (buyer), JL (buyer) and ASP or SEP (chauffeur).
Director of Crime and Detective of Polda Metro Jaya Senior Commissionaire Heru Pranoto stated that the suspects were operating in and around Jakarta and Tangerang District.
They targeted cars parked at roadsides, stated Pranoto, adding that one of the suspects was a car thief disguised as a private vehicle driver.
The private vehicle driver then stole the car after he dropped off his employer.
Police managed to confiscate 28 auto vehicles stolen by the group between November and December 2013, and also some tools, sickles and airsoft guns.
"This gang had been operational for three years," Pranoto confirmed.
Head of Auto Vehicle Sub-directorate of Polda Metro Jaya Adjunct Senior Commissionaire Audie Latuheri noted the stolen cars were sold at Rp25-30 million (around 2500 US Dollar) per unit.
"The buyers can even order the color of their choice," Latuheri stated.
DSB is the leader or the captain of the auto theft syndicate.
Police is investigating the case in order to seize the larger auto theft syndicate.
