Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, stated the need for an integrated partnership between the local government and the central government to tackle Jakartas flooding problems.

"Mitigation of flooding is not only the responsibility of the provincial administration but also the central government. There are 13 major as well as small rivers, in addition to 884 small channels. The flood management needs a long time," stated Jokowi in Jakarta on Monday.

Jokowi pointed out that the provincial administration continues to dredge the reservoirs and rivers using heavy equipment.

"The role of the public in not littering is also important. No public role becomes useless," he explained.

According to Jokowi, Jakartas floods are also due to the water consignment from other areas such as Bogor. So, the resident on this area should not cut down trees carelessly.

"I appreciate the local government of Bogor that is already knocking out the villas to be transformed into green spaces and water uptake," he stated.

Jokowi pointed out that the floods in Jakarta are complex but can be treated with focused work and partnership with all parties.

Earlier, Head of Data Information and Public Relations of The National Disaster Management Board (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, stated that as many as 5,152 people were displaced due to the floods and were spread across 35 refugees camp.

"Meanwhile, according to the data collected until Monday at 7 p.m. local time, water flooded 18 districts," Sutopo stated.

According to him, as many as 7,367 homes with 24,269 inhabitants were flooded.
