Indonesia needs to take a firm stand to either become a friend or the enemy."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government should take a firm stand against tapping done by other countries in view of national interest, the Vice Chairman of House of Representatives (DPR) Pramono Anung stated.
"It (tapping) is not just the interest of one person or groups. It is of national interest; the government should take a firm stand against any country," Pramono Anung noted here on Thursday.
Pramono explained that he has spoken to the Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa about the recurring tapping incidents by other countries. He added that he appreciates the Foreign Ministers moves to address the tapping issues.
"Indonesia needs to take a firm stand to either become a friend or the enemy," he asserted.
Meanwhile, a member of the DPR commission for political and international affairs Susaningtyas Nefo Kertopati asked the government to check and make sure the telecommunication information system in Indonesia works all right.
"We do not know if there is a chip that can tap into the system. So, we must be careful while using technology," she pointed out.
However, Susaningtyas supports the stand of the Indonesian government of recalling the ambassador for Australia.
Indonesia has been in the news yet again, with regard to the tapping scandal by National Security Agency (NSA) on law firm practices in United States.
The case was leaked out by ex-contractor of NSA, Edward J Snowden and was quoted by The New York Time on Saturday, Feb. 15.
According to the document leaked by Snowden, NSA monitored every law firm that worked to represent foreign countries on trade dispute with United States. One of country that met the criteria is Indonesia.
The document added that the Indonesian government had recruited a law firm to take on the trade dispute with United States on tobacco, cigarettes and shrimps.
