The movement was healthy but the gain should not be too strong."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The rupiah value fell 70 points in inter-bank transaction in the Thursday closing trade on negative global sentiment.

The currency traded at the level of 11,833 per US dollar from 11,763 earlier.

"The rupiah fall followed negative global sentiment despite positive sentiment from Indonesian economic data released earlier," financial market analyst Lukman Leong from PT Platon Niaga Berjangka, said.

He said a number of currencies of developing countries were under pressure of the Feds decision to further cut its financial stimulus.

He said he hoped the government is more serious in protecting rupiah from losing more value.

"In the past several days rupiah strengthened slightly to trade at the level of 11,600 per US dollar. The movement was healthy but the gain should not be too strong," he said.

Meanwhile, Rully Nova , a financial market observer from Bank Himpunan Saudara, described the rupiah fall on Thursday as healthy in line with the trend in developing countries.

"It is still possible for rupiah to regain value with expectation that the improving trend of the Indonesian economy would continue this year," Rully said.
