Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) has agreed to an eight-member expert team to select candidates for constitutional court justices in a fit and proper test scheduled for March 3 to 5, 2014.

"The expert team must be made up of independent persons who have no interests in general elections," Deputy Chairman of the House Commission III Al Muzzamil Yusuf said in a discussion on who deserve to become constitutional court justices at the parliament building here on Thursday.

The eight members of the expert team are former constitutional court justice Laica Marzuki, former chief of the Muhammadiyah Islamic organization Ahmad SyafiI Maarif, state administrative law expert Lauddin Marsuni, member of the Peoples Consultative Assemblys Constitution Forum Zein Bajeber, former constitutional court justice Natabaya, former law and human rights minister Andi Mattalatta, state administrative professor Saldi Isra, and sociologist and researcher Musni Umar.

The House Commission III has begun a series of fit and proper tests on 12 candidates for constitutional court justices.

Muzammil said the 12 candidates were obliged to write scientific papers as a prerequisite to take part in the fit and proper test.

The House Commission III will conduct a fit and proper test on candidates for constitutional court justices late February or early March by considering recommendations from the expert team.

"The constitutional court justices should be elected before the House recess starting on March 6, 2014," he said.

Eleven of the 12 candidates are professionals and one candidate is a politician from the United Development Party (PPP).
