We hope this year`s SXSW will be a watershed moment in opening up such an era."Seoul (ANTARA News/Yonhap) - Korean musicians will perform at the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, this week, the government said Thursday, in a sign of growing influence of K-pop the world over.
The artists will perform on "K-pop Night Out" next Tuesday at the main venue of the international film, interactive and music festival, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and its affiliate Korea Creative Content Agency.
This years SXSW festival will run from March 7-16.
They said the concert will feature a mix of new and established K-pop artists including Nell, Kiha, the Faces and IDIOTAPE, Jay Park and Hyuna of the girl group 4Minute.
"An era of so-called K-pop 3.0, in which Korean music of diverse genres gain global attention in addition to music by idol groups, has just begun," Hong Sang-pyo, chief of the cultural agency, was quoted as saying in a press release. "We hope this years SXSW will be a watershed moment in opening up such an era."
Eight Korean indie acts including Big Phony, YB, Hollow Jan, SmackSoft and Nobrain will take part in other categories of the festival, according to the agency.
