Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Rupiah closed on Friday stronger against the US dollar on US economic slowdown.

The Indonesian currency traded at the level of 11,413 per US dollar gaining from 11,432 per dollar earlier.

Asian currencies including rupiah gained against the US dollar, which weakened on signs that the US economic recovery slowed, analysts said.

Slowing US economic recovery gave rise to expectation that the Fed would be less aggressive in trimming its financial stimulus, chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra , said.

In addition the receding tension and crisis in Ukraine also provided positive sentiment in the financial markets of developing countries.

Ariston said the statement of head of the European Central Band (ECB) Mario Draghi that there was no threat of deflation in the euro zone put pressure on the US dollar.(*)
