Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked Indonesias Police Chief General Sutarman to add woman police personnel in order to cover women and children-related issues.

"Dont forget to add woman police personnel as there is a need for protection for women and children, due to more complex criminal cases related to women and children," President Yudhoyono told General Sutarman, after hearing a presentation on Indonesias police force during a meeting held at the Presidential Office here on Monday.

During the presentation titled Modernization of Indonesian Police and Military, General Sutarman talked about the recent state of the Indonesian police. The discussion was held after the drafting meeting of the National Budget Plan 2015.

President Yudhoyono pointed out that the government has a target to increase police personnel to 50 thousand personnel by 2014, to adjust the balance ratio of police personnel and the number of citizens. "The targets aim is to get a balance ratio of one personnel, so that people are better protected," he said.

According to data, Indonesias police force has about 12,100 women personnel, with 9,800 in the brigadier level, or 0.3 percent of the total 400 thousand personnel.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has 4,773 sector police around Indonesia, which means the deployment of women personnel in each sector was uneven. The ideal percentage of women personnel to the total is 10 percent.

The meeting with Indonesias police and military officials was also attended by Vice President Boediono, Coordinator Minister for Political, Legal and Security affairs Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister of Peoples Welfare Agung Laksono, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa and Financial Minister Chatib Basri.
