The Hague (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Vice President Boediono attended the Nuclear Security Summit that is being held in The Hague, The Netherlands, on March 24-25.

The Vice President and other world leaders were greeted by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at the World Forum Convention Center, Churchillplein 10, before the opening ceremony of the Summit on Monday afternoon.

At the summit, Boediono was flanked by Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa and the foreign ministrys Director General for Multilateral Affairs Hasan Kleib, Indonesian Ambassador to the NetherlandsRetno Marsudi, and State Protocol Chief Ahmad Rusdi.

The first Nuclear Security Summit was held in Washington. The results of the summit were set down in the Washington Work Plan. In 2012, the second summit was held in Seoul. The concrete results of the summit were presented in the Seoul Communiqu.

The Nuclear Security Summit 2014 is a world summit aimed at preventing nuclear terrorism around the globe.

Delegations from 53 countries, including the leaders of the U.S., China and Japan are participating in the Summit.

They meet to negotiate on reducing and securing supplies, and keeping them out of terrorists hands.

The summit is the third since U.S. President Barack Obama launched the series in 2009 shortly after assuming office, explaining that reducing the risk of a terrorist attack with either a nuclear weapon or a "dirty bomb" was one of his most important international policy goals.

Prime Minister Rutte, in his opening speech, outlined three main goals that have to be focused on at this summit and afterward.

"First, we simply need to keep working to reduce the amount of dangerous nuclear material in the world," he stated.

Second, a stronger security culture for nuclear material - a subject that was also on the agenda in Washington and Seoul was needed, he added.

"Our third and final chief goal is to bolster the international nuclear security architecture. The coordinating role, played by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the system of peer reviews, is of course crucial in this regard. And so is making sure that the amended Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material enters rapidly into force," he elaborated.
