We instantly simulated on how far the tsunami wave would make an impact on Indonesia..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, BMKG has revoked the tsunami warning for the entire Indonesian territory, caused by the 8.2 magnitude earthquake in Chile on Wednesday, April 2.
"After the observation, we have witnessed that the major earthquake did not impact Indonesia due to the distance from Indonesian coastal areas," clarified the agencys Chief Andi Eka Sakya here on Thursday.
The tsunami warning was revoked at 8.30 a.m. by the agency after obtaining the analysis monitoring data from the sea level observations device.
An earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale that occurred in Chile has caused a 1.92 meters tsunami in the coastal areas of Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning Center, InaTEWS, also immediately issued a tsunami warning indicating that the tsunami will hit several regions across Indonesia.
"We instantly simulated on how far the tsunami wave would make an impact on Indonesia; our prediction is less than 0.5 meters," assured Andi.
The warning was issued by the tsunami propagation analysis. There are 115 locations in the districts or cities of 19 provinces across Indonesia that will potentially be hit by the tsunami.
Potential tsunami height was measured at about 0-0.5 meter high and was estimated to hit the Indonesian northern coastal areas from 5:11 until 19:44 GMT+7.
Andi clarified that on Thursday morning, the agency received information on the wave height from the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu which are closer to Chile that the waves have have reached 0.50 meters high, and therefore Indonesia is considered to be safe from the tsunami waves surge.
