The cooperation had yielded a flood early warning system..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Dutch Minister for Infrastructure and Environmental Affairs Melanie Schultz van Haegen officially renewed cooperation between her ministry and the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
"The cooperation includes transfer of technology," Chairman of BMKG Andi Eka Sakya said here on Thursday after receiving the Dutch minister.
Five institutions will cooperate in the application of climate prediction sciences in agriculture and disaster management.
The five agencies are BMKG, the Geo-spacial Information Agency (BIG), the Application of Science and Technology Agency (BPPT), the Agricultural Research and Development Agency (Balitbang) and the Water Resources Research and Development Center (PusAir).
In the agricultural sector, the cooperation includes the development of integrated and dynamic planting calendar to ensure the continuous updating of climate data.
In the disaster management field, the cooperation covers flood early warning system (FEWS) and drought early warning system (DEWS).
Indonesia and the Netherlands have established cooperation in climate and weather since 2009.
"The cooperation had yielded a flood early warning system, which was installed in the Ciliwung river basin and surrounding areas," he said.
