Mirza will finish his current term of office as the senior deputy governor of the central bank on July 17, 2014.Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had proposed Mirza Adytiaswara for another term of office as the senior deputy governor of the Bank Indonesia (BI), a lawmaker said.
"According to the presidents official letter to the DPR (House of Representatives), he proposed Mirza," Deputy Chairman of the House Commission XI Harry Azhar Azis said in a short message text sent to ANTARA in Batam on Monday.
In the letter dated April 26, 2014, the president proposed Mirza as the only candidate for the post, he said.
Mirza will finish his current term of office as the senior deputy governor of the central bank on July 17, 2014.
According to the BI law, the president must propose a candidate for the post of the central banks senior deputy governor to the DPR for approval before the term of office of the current official ends.
Harry said the president should have proposed more than one candidate as three seats of the central banks senior deputy governor were still vacant.
Under the law, the president and the DPR can decide two posts of members of the BI board of governors.
"Therefore, the president has the obligation to propose one more candidate for the post of the BI deputy governor," he said.
The BI board of governors is currently made up of six members. Under the BI law, the number must be nine.(*)
